BDTS Class Information
2010-2011 MASTER SCHEDULE -Classes begin Tuesday Sept 7, 2010.
Registration is open now!
PRE-SCHOOL DIVISION classes in this division are for preschool age children and somewhat older. Pre-Ballet classes are for children who are 3 to 5 years old and there are several choices during the week. We also offer a Pre-Tap for 3 to 5 year olds. Disney Kids is a Pre-Jazz and Pre-Ballet combination class and is for 5-7 year olds and uses familiar Disney music. You'll also find listed here our very popular Broadway Kids class for 5-7 yo that includes voice and singing to popular Broadway and Movie show tunes, like "Annie" and "Lion King".
OPEN STUDIO DIVISION classes are usually for beginning children and teens from 6 to 17 years old. Most classes meet once a week and have no pre-requisites. Open classes can also be used to fulfill requirements for Conservatory courses. There are classes in Ballet (primary level, levels 1 & 2, tweens and teens), Broadway (open level 1,2 & 3), Jazz, Tap, Modern, Lyrical and the always hugely popular Hip-Hop with Josh Wess.
CONSERVATORY DIVISION contains classes for children and teen students who are interested in a more intense course of dance study. These classes usually meet multiple times weekly, require prior experience and placement by the instructor. Students can "major" in Ballet or Musical Theatre (Note: Conservatory Broadway is different then Open Studio Broadway in that Conservatory Broadway called "Musical Theatre Repertory" requires approval by the instructor and enrollment in voice and acting 1,2 or 3. Private voice classes will count toward this requirement. Students in MTR 1,2 or 3 must also be enrolled in at least one other "dance class" at BDTS (ballet is preferred but not required. Open Broadway is open to all students of the appropriate age for the level and has no other dance class requirement requirement.
COMMTTMENT CONTRACT Students enrolled in either Conservatory Ballet or Musical Theatre Repertory classes will be required to sign a committment contract that confirms their level of interest and willingness to engage in the intensity of these programs. The contract will detail what is expected of the student in terms of attendance, classroom behavior, attitude, dress, cooperation, self-motivation and intiative. Students will also write a statement that includes their understanding of the policy in the event that these expectations are not met.
It should be understood very clearly that we do not feel that Conservatory students are "better" than Studio students and that do not deserve any more attention. It is simply that their interests are different. If a student steps back from the Conservatory program or is asked to do so because of unmet expectations we usually take it to mean that interests have changed or were not clearly understood initally. We welcome that student's diverse interests.
ADULT DIVISION: Adult students are 16 years or older but may take teen classes at teen tuition rates or adult classes on a drop in basis using an adult FLEXCARD.
DRESS CODE: here you will find the dress code for each class as well as dance classroom etiquette
IMPORTANT DATES: a calendar of scheduled closings, performances, rehearsals and auditions.
TUITION AND FEES: Tuition rates for children and teens are based on the total number of hours each week a student participates in classes. The more hours each week spent in class the lower the rate. Students who take 2 hours of class each week do not pay twice as much as a student who takes only one hour. You will also find information about registration fees, withdrawal information and payment policies.
