A few notes about our dress code and classroom etiquette:
DRESS CODE: We have dress codes here at BDTS because we think it helps the overall experience of learning and makes for a more consistent and less distracting environment. We are not trying to stifle individuality or creativity.
1. The dress codes  are meant to be taken seriously....if not you will be asked to leave the class.
2. We understand that there are hopefully rare occasions in which the dress code cannot be adhered to.
3. Note that Ballet levels 2-6 have specific colors and styles of leotard. Please do not attempt to match the color to one you think comes close to the color we have chosen. That will defeat our purpose.
4. A reminder.....consistent disregard for the dress code will have serious consequences. The only acceptable class attire is what we have specified. Make sure you are aware of the dress code before coming to class or buying dance clothes.
HAIR
:Hair that is not properly secured can be dangerous, uncomfortable and distracting for the student and others.
1. Long hair should be tied back in a secure, neat bun for any class in which turns are practiced (which means almost all). As a rule of thumb, if the hair can reach the eyes from the back in needs to be in a bun. Hair that can reach the shoulders needs to be tied back.
2. This rule applies to all classes including all pre-school level classes
3. Hair attire rules are meant to be taken seriously as well.
CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE: Every student in the dance classroom has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach class material without disruption and distraction. For this reason, classroom behavior will be strictly enforced. Rules will be clearly stated, posted and reminded. Positive behavior will noticed and reinforced. Negative behavior will have quick, developmentally appropriate, timely, non-emotional consequences.
1. Lateness to class: Lateness is very distracting to teachers and students. Late students will gain admission to class only after permission of the instructor
2. Talking: Talking to other students during exercises is not allowed
3. No chewing gum
4. No hanging or swinging from the ballet barres
5. Asking questions: We understand that students often feel the need to talk or chat or ask questions during class. This takes up valuable and precious teaching time. Questions about technique or combinations are appropriate. How much longer to the break? Can I get water? When does the class end? These are not!
6. Students are expected to use the bathroom before class. Contained water bottles are allowed and suggested.
7. Bullying of any sort will not be tolerted
8. Continued disruptive behavior will result in being excused from the class
9. Frequent absences (>75%) may result in being excsued from the class recital and showcases
10. AND ABOVE ALL......PAY ATTENTION (this and hard work is how any professional dancer has gotten where he or she is).
