Studio Company

We are pleased to announce the formation of the Barriskill Studio Company, BDTS’s new performing company.  This company is distinct from our non-profit partner, Triangle Performing Arts Company.  The mission of BSC is to provide an opportunity for dancers to:

  • broaden their range of knowledge and skills in different dance forms
  • strength, endurance, and technical dance skills
  • perform in a variety of settings for different audiences
  • improve life skills: cooperation, team-work, discipline, and more

The company will rehearse weekly, with a 90-minute ballet class and 2-hour repertory rehearsal.  Participating students will be expected to attend all classes and rehearsals.  In addition to performing multiple community events throughout the spring, the company will hold a showcase at the studio in late spring.

Admission to the company will be by audition only.  This year’s auditions will be held on January 21st, 2012.  The audition will include multiple dance styles (ballet, tap, jazz, etc.) and will be at an intermediate/advanced level.  For 2012, we anticipate accepting 12-16 students into the company.

The fee for company participation is still being finalized, but will be approximately $300 ($200 for class/rehearsal time plus $100 for costumes). 

Barriskill Studio Company will be open only to students who take at least one class at BDTS.  Students from other dance schools are welcome to participate, but they must also be enrolled at BDTS.

Note: While the new performing company will be a small group of BDTS students, our Holiday Spectacular/Nutcracker production will continue to be an inclusive endeavor for students at all levels and from studios around the Triangle.
